GOSPEL MUSIC
Gospel means god news, it is the music which is the one vehicles thoughts which the ideals of Christianity was spread around of the world. At the beginning, when it was the slavery, the
slaveries from Africa singed songs when it was very hard, to kill time. A leader starts the song and the others continue.
Since 1800, African-American church in United States was using various styles of music into their worship, included African-American spirituals, hymns and sacred songs. The gospel at this time was composed by African melodies, verse in the bible, improvisation etc… The use of choir was the heart of gospel music. The church choir is a group of volunteers singers form the church congregation. Choir member normally dressed in uniforms, which were choir robes of the colour that they want.The type of music sung by the gospel choir followed the call-and-response format similar to that used in traditional hymns and sacred songs.
At 1930, the gospel continued to evolve. The gospel has four distinct styles, there are Negros spiritual, Quartet style, Traditional gospel, Comptemporary gospel and Praise and Worship. Negros spiritual was take on slavery time. The gospel quartet style is the one in which a small of male vocalist sing music together with tight harmonies. The gospel quartet sings in four part harmonies, with parts given to a tenor, or it can be call the highest part. There is also the lead who usually takes the melody. The baritone blends the sounds and the base who is the lowest adds richness to the song.The big difference between ¸Traditional and Contemporary gospel is that traditional used a more basics songs suited for singing by the choir but comtemporary gospel makes more emphasis on solo artist. Most contemporary artist sing rarely with a choir. Praise worship is the combination of contemporary and traditional gospel styles, in that a praise has a small group of singers to help lead the congregation into singing gospel music.
